I began studying design at NC State's School of Design, but decided that I missed fine art entirely too much. After taking a semester off, I transferred just down the street to the much smaller Meredith College. Meredith was a great fit for me where I was challenged and pushed to create in a number of media. After college, in 2005 without having narrowed down my focus on media, I tried to get into a local gallery. Of course, the jurors at the gallery thought I needed to focus on one media. Shortly thereafter, my boyfriend at the time, now husband, asked me to mosaic his kitchen backsplash, all seventeen square feet of it! At first I thought he was crazy, but after a few days I changed my mind. It was challenging and fun. I continued creating functional and fine art mosaics. After the backsplash, the ideas flowed and they haven't stopped. I am currently striving to balance my day job and mosaics with the ultimate goal being to focus on mosaics full time. I have basically lived on the Outer Banks, barrier islands off the Coast of North Carolina, all my life with the exception of attending college. If you've been to the Outer Banks before, you know the place is like a magnet. My husband, Chris, and I share our house with our two spoiled rotten dogs, Max and Tigger.
