If you're visiting the Outer Banks of North Carolina there are numerous galleries to visit. You can find Gwyn's mosaics at the Kill Devil Hills Cooperative Gallery at milepost 8 and at the Dare County Arts Council Gallery in Manteo.
Gwyn began studying design at NC State's School of Design, but decided that she missed fine art entirely too much. She transferred just down the street to the much smaller Meredith College. Meredith was a great fit for Gwyn where she was challenged and pushed to create in a number of media.
In 2005 without having narrowed down her focus on media, she tried to get into a local gallery. Of course, the jurors at the gallery thought she needed to focus on one media. Shortly thereafter, her boyfriend at the time, now husband, asked her to mosaic his kitchen backsplash, all seventeen square feet of it! At first she thought he was crazy, but after a few days she changed her mind. It was challenging and fun. She continued creating functional and fine art mosaics. After the backsplash, the ideas flowed and they haven't stopped. Gwyn is currently striving to balance her full time job and her mosaics with the ultimate goal being to focus on mosaics full time.
Gwyn has basically lived on the Outer Banks, barrier islands off the Coast of North Carolina, all her life with the exception of attending college. If you've been to the Outer Banks before, you know the place is like a magnet. Gwyn and her newlywed husband, Chris share their house with their two spoiled rotten dogs, Max and Tigger.
